Pegasus (TOS)
From Wiki Frakr
The Pegasus, aka Galactica clone was a ship in the massively inferior original Battlestar Galactica. It was commanded by a guy named Cain. He eventually got his ship blown up, making him as incompetent as Lee Adama.
History
The ship (which did not have a cool nickname) was built by the Colonials, who apparently had no idea how to design a ship that did not look like a bunch of pipes in the shape of a ship. Eventually, it fell into Cain's hands. This would have been a good thing if the guy wasn't an egomaniac. The whole "living legend" thing didn't help.
However, the ship managed to have good luck for a while (which was celebrated with drunken parties). That is, until the Battle of Molecay, where she and the Fifth Fleet (Pegasus and a bunch of flying bricks) fought lame chrome robots and a giant semi-visible amoeba. Pegasus escaped into deep space after all the other ships were lost in a predictably useless charge at the amoeba (which had eaten the entire Cylon freet).
Eventually, she meet up with Galactica in the massively overrated two-parter "The Living Legend", where Cain fought with a clean shaven space Moses. After a bunch of pointless bickering, Cain and Adama team up to get fuel for the fleet of people who tag along with Galactica. Eventually, Cain decides to ditch most of people on shuttles while he attempts to destroy the prick who betrayed humanity's double flying saucer. Which was rather stupid, since there were two more with him, but Cain went on.
What happened next has been the subject of great debate. Cain got too close for comfort, but fired missiles at the basestars, resulting in an XBOX HUEG explosion that destroyed the bad guys. No sign of the Pegasus was seen, which lead to rumors of her survival. Exactly how the ship would survive is hotly debated: some say Cain's ego slingshotted her across space to Earth, while others use technobabble to explain her survival.
In the end, no one knows. Apollo did get a girlfriend out of the ordeal, who didn't get offed like his last one; at least she didn't have any annoying children attached at her hip, either.
Trivia
- It isn't known whether Cain's run at the basestars influenced the Beast's demise, but the Beast definitely was cooler, even in death.
- Strangely, Cain did not use the ship's ancient Ejypsun lazer beams to kill Baltar's ship.
- Basically, the only thing difference between this ship and Galactica is the name plate. Whooray budget limits!
