A Humanoid Cylon is a machine, who looks and feels human. They were produced first on Kobol, the planet they must have burned down, and left after the humans went in 12 directions, they went to Earth, only to toast themselves, and irradiate the whole planet.
After the First Cylon War, the machinoid cylons decided, they are not sexy enough in their toaster forms, so they produced naked women, and invented resurrection for them, helped by the Final Five, who travelled 2000 years from Earth to find their new born brother cylons.
What opportunities can offer being human for a machine? Maybe this was the only way to be filled with God's presence? No one understands.
