FTL stands for Fast-Though-Lame (pronounced: fast-do'-lame). On the show it usually comes as a "FTL Jump" which tells us that the Galactica / The Fleet / a Basestar is about to use cheats and h4x in order to put their ship instantaneously in a different spot in space.
FTL also stands for "Fruit of the Loom"[1].
How to: Make a FTL Jump
1. Receive orders from a superior officer to make a FTL Jump.
2. Insert a blue-glowing-dildolike-thingie into the FTL port.
3. Receive an "OMGWTFFTL" call from the main computer.
4. Insert directions in the computer's GPS.
5. Count reeeeeeealyyyy slowlyyyyyyyy from 10 to 0 (Miniseries: Night 2).
6. JUMP.
FAQ
Q: What happens if you jump into another ship?
A: Well, that never happened thanks to an AWESOME guidance system. Could be funny though (do').
Q: Why didn't the fleet use it for over 20 years?
A: Because it's LAME. there's no other explanation.
Q:What happens if you jump into an atmosphere?
A: If it's a big alligator with skis it'll fall with cool flames. If it's a Raptor, it'll fly unless it hits a mountain or something.
