The Command Navigation Program is Colonial analogue to Microsoft Windows programmed by The Fraktard.

Much like Windows, it is filled with exploits that can compromise the intended operation of computers, and when coupled with wireless technology, viruses and intentional malware can be transmitted, causing devastating results.

Unlike Windows (or so we hopefully believe), these backdoors and exploits were programmed by Caprica-Six... who herself may have been prolific and adept in usage of backdoors.

This little bugger (also like windows) is on pretty much every vessel of the Colonial military. Oh sure there are some rare exceptions, mainly the Battlestar Galactica and it's planes, which use the much older MS-DOS, which didn't support networking. Some people in the military are real bitchy about it since they have to fly and land their cool space craft. You know how many people would love to fly? And here we have Apollo complaining how he has to push a button. Lazy frakker.

Since Caprica-Six programmed most of the code while boning Baltar, cause she is that talented, the Cylons know how to really mess with the CNP. Although if it is anything like Windows Vista, just turning it on will allow problems to start. During the Great Toasting of the Colonies, the Cylons hacked into the Colonial defense system and erased all the porn of the twelve colonies. This led to a massive suicide which means the Cylons used those nukes for nothing.

Since the Galactica was not given the hook up with the CNP, it was immune from the Cylon's hacking and has the only known collection of porn left in the galaxy.
